Public Accessibility Statement
Oakland University is committed to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability. We are actively working to increase the accessibility and usability of our website to conform with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard.
This site has been built using code compliant with W3C standards for HTML and CSS. The site displays correctly in current browsers and using standards compliant HTML/CSS code means any future browsers will also display it correctly.
Oakland University strives to implement functionality and update their website design, as well as it’s content and digital assets, to be barrier-free. This includes, but is not limited to, providing introductory copy to web pages, using properly nested headings, descriptive link text, image labels, navigational and focusable with a keyboard, video captions and transcripts, accessible files and documents, and proper coding for compatibility with screen reading technology.
The website design is simplified with accessibility in mind. Some design elements include, but are not limited to, proper color contrast, keyboard accessible navigation, scalable content including font size, allowing page elements to properly reflow without any hidden text or loss of functionality, and no horizontal scrolling.
While Oakland University strives to adhere to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability, it is not always possible to do so in all areas of the website.
